Richard Downing lives and works in Borth, West Wales. His hand thrown, burnished, pit fired vessels are coloured by fire and found combustibles such as seaweed, salt, copper, iron, horsehair and ferns. Richard describes the process he uses as ‘deliberately chaotic’ ‘making each piece unique and unrepeatable’.

The finish is achieved using a non commercial glaze, so the clay is still porous and not intended to contain water.
